Amethyst
It is the most precious stone within the quartz group. Since its purple is considered a real color, amethyst, transparent purple quartz, it enjoys historical significance for the insignia of power. Fine amethysts have figured in the British Crown Jewels and were also favorites of Catherine the Great and Egyptian royalty. Amethyst was also a favorite stone in the high ranks of the Christian church and was referring to what is called´the stone of the bishop´

Amethyst colors

The amethyst agent color is iron. The range of colors varies from purple, pale violet to red-violet.

Purchase Amethyst

The deep colors are the most valuable, in particular, a warm purple with pink sparkles.
The´Siberia´, intense purple with red and blue sparkles, dominates the highest prices

Clarity

An excellent amethyst is transparent, which means, light passes through the stone without difficulty. A translucent amethyst slightly weakens the passage of light through the stone. The best quality amethyst is´clea´, free of inclusions of any kind. As the stone is abundant, there are few reasons to buy stones with visible inclusions.
Cut

Due to the roughness of the color distribution in the crystals, the amethyst is often cut as a round brilliant to maximize color. Other cuts can be used when the color is better distributed. Amethyst is available in a wide range of calibrated sizes and shapes, including many fanciful shapes.

Location and deposits of the Amethyst

The most important deposits are in Brazil, specifically, in´Palmeir , amethysts of Rio Grande do Sul and in Maraba , amethysts of Pará. Other locations are found in Bolivia, Canada, India, Madagascar, Mexico, Myanmar (Burma), Namibia, Russia, Sri Lanka, United States (Arizona), Uruguay and Zambia.
