It is the most precious stone within the quartz group. Since its purple is considered a real color, amethyst, transparent purple quartz, it enjoys historical significance for the insignia of power. The most important deposits are in Brazil, specifically, in´Palmeir , amethysts of Rio Grande do Sul and in Maraba , amethysts of Pará. Other locations are found in Bolivia, Canada, India, Madagascar, Mexico, Myanmar (Burma), Namibia, Russia, Sri Lanka, United States (Arizona), Uruguay and Zambia.
